Have you checked your Snaps lately? If you haven’t, you might notice some big changes.
Snapchat has let you chat with people for a while now, but now you can click on the conversation icon and choose which friend to chat with, instead of having to swipe left on that friend’s name on your list of Snaps. So if you wanted to chat with someone you don’t regularly receive Snaps from, now you can!
You know how when you meet someone and you instantly know they would be hilarious to get Snaps from? Well now, instead of having to ask them what their username is and manually entering it while worrying you might spell their name wrong, you can easily add them by scanning their username through your phone. It instantly adds them to your list. You access this by clicking the ghost on the top middle of your screen when you first pull up Snapchat.
This is definitely the biggest update Snapchat has ever had. It makes us think that Snapchat has many more things up its sleeve. This allows you to click on one of 12 options: From a news on CNN, to animal related news on National Geographic, to fashion and hairstyle tips on Cosmopolitan, to the latest celebrity happenings on People. This interactive display allows you to scroll down to learn more, read articles and watch videos, and it allows you to scroll to the right to discover other new related topics within the source you clicked on. These are called “daily editions” and you will be able to read/watch/look at them all day. Once 8 am Eastern Time hits the next day, it’s a new day to “discover”.
This update leads us to believe one day soon, we will be able to curate our own Discover page and only have options that interest you. For example, I’m not really interested in sports, so I probably won’t click on the ESPN Discover, but I will definitely read articles about animals and watch cute videos on National Geographic’s.
This is making Snapchat become more of a media publisher, rather than a place to send badly lit selfies or videos of your cat doing something funny. We’re excited to see that Snapchat is making big changes and can’t wait to see what’s next.
