This Sunday is the 57th annual Grammy awards, and we couldn’t be more excited for music’s biggest night. We spent the past year listening to most of these songs on our collaborative Spotify playlist or on iTunes (lookin’ at you, Taylor Swift), so we feel like we’re pretty acquainted with a majority of the nominees this year. We don’t know for sure how things will turn out, but we’re going to pick a few of the 83 categories and guess who will win based solely on social statistics. Here we go:
“Fancy,” Iggy Azalea
189+ million plays on Spotify
450+ million views on YouTube
240K+ parodies on YouTube
“Chandelier,” Sia
234+ million plays on Spotify
510+ million views on YouTube
109K+ parodies on YouTube
“Stay With Me (Darkchild Version),” Sam Smith
234+ million plays on Spotify
483+ million views on YouTube
205K+ uses of #StayWithMe on Instagram
“Shake It Off,” Taylor Swift
579+ million views on YouTube
406K+ uses of #ShakeItOff on Instagram
420K+ parodies on YouTube
“All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor
201+ million plays on Spotify
1 billion+ plays on YouTube
123K+ uses of #AllAboutThatBass on Instagram
350K+ parodies on YouTube
These are all pretty heavy hitters in terms of plays and social chatter, but if I had to guess based solely on the amount of times we played these songs in the office, I’d have to go with T-Swizzle.
Iggy Azalea
6.5+ million likes on Facebook
4.14+ million Twitter followers
6.3+ million followers on Instagram
Bastille
2.6+ million likes on Facebook
770K+ Twitter followers
316K+ followers on Instagram
Brandy Clark
20K+ likes on Facebook
17.2K+ Twitter followers
5K+ followers on Instagram
Haim
708K+ likes on Facebook
380K+ Twitter followers
288K+ followers on Instagram
Sam Smith
2.9+ million likes on Facebook
1.72+ million Twitter followers
2.1+ million followers on Instagram
Am I alone in not having any idea who Brandy Clark is? I sure hope not… Anyway, looking at these numbers, it’s pretty clear that Iggy’s blown everyone else out of the water in terms of social following. Damn.
“We Exist,” Arcade Fire
4.2+ million views on YouTube
“Turn Down For What,” DJ Snake & Lil Jon
174+ million views on YouTube
"Chandelier,” Sia
508+ million views on YouTube
“Happy,” Pharrell Williams
648+ million views on YouTube
“The Golden Age,” Woodkid Featuring Max Richter
1.5+ million views on YouTube
Honestly, I’m going to be shocked if Pharrell doesn’t win this one.
“Anaconda,” Nicki Minaj
73+ million plays on Spotify
420+ million views on YouTube
“Bound 2,” Kanye West & Charlie Wilson
30+ million plays on Spotify
47+ million views on YouTube
“I,” Kendrick Lamar
28+ million plays on Spotify
19+ million views on YouTube
“We Dem Boyz,” Wiz Khalifa
16+ million plays on Spotify
96+ million views on YouTube
“0 to 100 / The Catch Up,” Drake
49+ million plays on Spotify
10+ million views on YouTube
If we were basing this on my listens alone, Kendrick Lamar would be destroying this category. But because apparently other people don’t seem to share my love for Mr. Lamar, it might not be in the cards this year… But can we all just agree that Bound 2 is terrible?
“American Kids,” Kenny Chesney
21+ million plays on Spotify
11+ million views on YouTube
“Automatic,” Miranda Lambert
8+ million plays on Spotify
6+ million views on YouTube
“Give Me Back My Hometown,” Eric Church
13+ million plays on Spotify
9+ million views on YouTube
“I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” Glen Campbell
121K+ plays on Spotify
7+ million views on YouTube
“Meanwhile Back at Mama’s,” Tim McGraw Featuring Faith Hill
10+ million plays on Spotify
5+ million views on YouTube
It’s hard to imagine the first couple of country not walking away with one, and I was kind of surprised to see that “Automatic” had such low play counts, especially considering like 10% of those were probably played from our office Spotify account. But Kenny Chesney kind of blew this one away, so based on that alone, we’d guess he’ll go home a winner.
