2016 was the year of a bombardment of political tweets and a mirage of celebrity-inundated social. The New Year will likely see some of the same trends, but here are four social media trends to watch for in 2017.
You know the saying, “Photo or it didn’t happen!”? 2017 will be the year of, “live stream it or it’s not happening”. Okay, well, maybe people won’t say that exactly, but the notion will be there. Users want more access to the behind the scenes of brands they follow. So, if you want to stay in the game, your brand needs to be implementing some sort of live video strategy.
Filters
Everyone’s aware of the Snapchat filters and nearly everyone is also obsessed with them. I mean, who doesn’t want to have a flower halo and a glowing face? Because the obsession is real, filters are leaking into other social platforms like Facebook Live and Instagram Stories.
Filters are a great way for brands to show off their personality, so in 2017, don’t be afraid to have a little fun with them!
Instagram Stories debuted in August of last year and quickly became a new feat that everyone was talking about. The talk died down, but the use of Instagram Stories didn’t. Instagram stars and celebrities plaster videos and photos in the feed, but now it’s time for brands and businesses to take over the scene.
Here’s why. Snapchat is an impeccable platform for following friends and celebrities, but it’s not a platform business’ can really use. Instagram Stories is. Instagram Stories gives businesses’ the opportunity to join in on the short video and filtered picture trends while having an already established audience that will interact.
Real Responses
Users constantly take to social media to voice complaints. In 2017, users will expect to receive real, customized responses to those complaints. Brands like Wendy’s have already begun to latch on to this with their epic responses to customer complaints on Twitter. Not only were they able to answer their customers in real time, they also stirred up brand buzz by adding personality to their responses. Now, if we’re being straight, their responses wouldn’t work for all brands, so take into account your brand goals before setting your unique response.
To maintain a strong social presence in 2017, do your best to stay on top of new social marketing trends and know that the social platform is always changing!
