If you have not seen behaviors targeting for Facebook advertising yet as a digital marketer, you need to look into it sooner rather than later. Recognizing consumer behavior is key for a successful business. This is not news; people have known this since the beginnings of advertising. Marketing towards people’s behavior is more important than ever in this age of social media and technology where people are constantly bombarded with advertisements that aren't always relevant. Here's how to use Facebook consumer behavior targeting for your brand's Facebook advertising.
Consumer behavior is important.
I will say it again; consumer behavior is important. Fortunately, Facebook makes it easy to target based on behavior. There are hundreds of behavioral options available to target on Facebook:
Take advantage of these depending on your industry and advertising objectives. For example, if you are selling a product for people who watch baseball, selecting the Behavior-> Television-> Baseball shows as one of your targeting options is a good idea.
Knowing how to target behaviors is only helpful if you know what your consumer’s behaviors are.
So, do some research. Start with a list of everything you do know about your consumer. Write down a few examples of what someone who buys your product does in an average day. Then, step back even further. What is the purpose of your product? What problem is your product solving for your consumers?
One example that is relevant to Matchstick as a company is business to business marketing. B2B marketing is a big part of our business. Part of our behaviors as employees is to keep up to date with the latest changes in Facebook’s algorithm or Instagram’s analytics, and how we can use these features to help our client’s businesses. This means we are frequently seeing ads about social media tools, and analytics platforms.
A quick scroll through our company’s Facebook just showed ads for two CRM platforms, a stock photo editing website, a video making program and top festivals for Charleston Wine. Not sure about that last one, but the rest of those ads are well targeted towards our behaviors.
Whatever you advertise, advertise to your audience. People's behavior is big for business, understanding what your audience does will help you grow your business. Facebook makes this easy for you- and we can make it easier, contact us for social marketing help!
